Double Fine Adventure / BROKEN AGE (2012-2014)

Continuing a long running partnership with 2 Player Productions, 2014 brought on one of the first of many collaborations with video game development studio, Double Fine Productions. Iconic in its own right, Double Fine took the opportunity to take part in a then novel concept: crowdfunding a niche game that their fans had been clamoring for that would later be named Broken Age. 2 Player Productions pitched the idea of documenting the company’s CEO/iconic game developer, Tim Schafer, which went over well, ultimately leading to an 18-part documentary series entitled Double Fine Adventure that spawned more than two years of work by the studio and documentary crew.

The Kickstarter campaign co-conceptualized by 2 Player Productions and Double Fine aimed to raise $400,000; A modest amount for a medium-sized game. Fans and backers were so excited about it that the campaign went on to raise more than $4 million via Kickstarter and continued donations after the campaign ended, the highest grossing crowdfunded game at the time… a massive step forward in crowdfunding games, considering that I was the first person to ever Kickstart a game, just a few years prior!

It was my distinct pleasure to contribute a bounty of audio production work to the Kickstarter pitch video and other marketing materials, sound mixing for select episodes of the series, as well as nearly 30 hours of bonus content found on the Double Fine Adventure bluray set, later released in 2016. Contributions to the project also included on-location recording sessions with regular collaborators; Jack Black, Pendleton Ward, Wil Wheaton, and Elijah Wood — some of the many talented celebrities that contributed their voices to Broken Age’s roster.
