Citizen Sound (2023)
Live audio production and post production for weekly two-hour, special format program featuring inclusive indie and alternative music for NPR-affiliate station, KCBX. Presented and hosted program in a hybrid format, partially pre-produced and part live, on-air to the station’s listenership of 43,000 people spread across California’s Central Coast, from Santa Barbara to Monterrey.
As a kid, I would stay up late at night, secretly listening to the radio on my tiny headphones, alone in my room. My regular listening schedule included Dr. Demento, often falling asleep to artists like Weird Al and whatever other oddball tracks he managed to get aired in the late ‘80s. Another favorite radio personality is Art Bell, founder of Coast to Coast AM, a talk radio show exploring the oddities and paranormalities that may or may not exist in our universe.
I've spent countless hours throughout my life driving around late at night accompanied only by the radio. As an introvert whose life has been filled with a list of solitary things to contemplate, hearing the voices on the radio has always given me a break from them. Listening has always felt like an anonymous handshake between me, a stranger in a far away place, a guiding voice for a lonely night.
It’s a distinct pleasure to announce my return to public radio, and to be that voice for all of the other insomniacs here in San Luis Obispo, and beyond. My new show, Citizen Sound, has been on the air for around a decade on our NPR-affiliate station, KCBX.
