Caleb Nichols / Double Mantasy (2015)

One of my favorite things to do is work with other creatives on projects with a unique, singular vision. For Double Mantasy, San Luis Obispo native and musician, Caleb Nichols, conceived a ‘Beatles Fanfiction’ album, taking both audio and visual cues from an assortment of his favorite Beatles-related albums and motifs. The cover art and layout were meant to parrot John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s album, Double Fantasy, as closely as possible without getting sued. It was a distinct pleasure to follow his vision in creating a collection of products to highlight the music he had written and recorded across studios in California over a couple of years.

My Roles included design and layout of the cover art for the digital, CD, and cassette versions of the release, audio mastering of all tracks, sound design on specific track interludes, creating a “lyrics” music video to the single from the album, and a website to act as a home for each of these individual elements.

The album was later re-released in 2022 by legendary indie record label Kill Rock Stars (Elliott Smith, Bikini Kill, Nirvana), under the title Ramon, out of fear of getting sued by the Lennon/Ono estates.
